Auto-firing means the coil is heating and making vapour even though you are not drawing on the device. On a sealed, button-free disposable this is unusual, but it can happen, and the right response is calm and careful rather than trying to fix a sealed unit yourself.
Overview
What auto-firing looks like
The clearest sign is the device getting warm or producing vapour on its own, often with the indicator light staying on without a draw. Because our disposables are draw-activated with no button, any heating with no draw is a signal to stop using it. Our anatomy guide shows what is inside, which helps explain why a sensor fault can trigger this.
Why it can happen
Most cases come from pressure on the draw sensor, such as a device squeezed deep in a tight pocket, debris or liquid near the mouthpiece, or physical damage from a drop. A sensor that thinks it is being drawn on will keep the coil firing. It is not something to try to repair on a sealed unit.

What to do immediately
Stop using it. Take it out of your pocket, do not cover or block the mouthpiece, and set it somewhere safe where it cannot be crushed. Let it cool. If it keeps heating, move it to a safe spot away from flammables and take it to an e-waste or battery collection point. Our recycling guide covers responsible disposal, and our battery safety guide article covers battery safety basics.
Prevention is simple
Keep the mouthpiece clear, avoid sitting on a device in a back pocket, and buy genuine product from authorised sellers, as our authentic device guide explains. A small carry case removes most pocket-pressure risk. If a device ever feels hot in your hand without use, that is the moment to stop and dispose of it safely rather than keep using it.

Frequently asked questions
How should I store the device safely?
Keep it upright at room temperature, away from direct sun and heat, and out of reach of children and pets. Good storage protects battery life and avoids leaks.
What do I do with a device I no longer use?
Do not bin it. Vapes contain a lithium battery - take them to a battery recycling point or e-waste collection so the cell is handled properly.
What is a sign something is wrong?
A sudden burnt taste, leaking, or unusual heat means stop using the device. These are signs the coil or battery should not be pushed further.
Are nicotine vapes supplied through pharmacies?
In Australia, nicotine vaping products are a regulated therapeutic good supplied to adults through pharmacies and authorised channels under the TGA framework. Check current rules where you live.
